HENRY AND EFFIE VICTORY MEMORIAL GARDEN: A CALL TO PARTNERSHIP TO SUPPORT CHILDREN’S FUTURE

Visionary planning is a core value at Love in Action-Malawi (LIAM). However, availability of funding defines the success or failure of our plans. In 2017, a family who glorifies God for the opportunity to invest in His kingdom through LampStand Inc. helped LIAM with a generous donation to acquire land about 38 acres in Salima, Malawi. The purpose of the land is to be a future host of LIAM children centre as well as an operation base for the organisation. Up to now, the plans are still intact with more elaborate and extensive proposals; the only setback is the funds to make this a reality. Nevertheless, the question might rise, are all the acres of the land we acquired in 2017 idle? Where is LIAM base now since the plan to establish its base and operations offices have met with financial setbacks? The story coming will unveil the most exquisite turn of events that also put LIAM’s only local income generating activity running.
LIAM is blessed beyond measures. We have people whose heart beat for the wellbeing of the children of Salima. As one of our project focus area is to feed our 400 children, LIAM management saw it wise to engage our sponsors in a local income generating activity through partnership with foreign donors. LIAM commissioned a farming project in October 2017 as a response. The activity aims at direct food production to feed our children in the program as well as a source of funds to support our children and staff in varied capacities. Victor Joseph big-heartedly jumped in this farming project and his support has been unwavering ever since. The farm under this farming project is known as Henry and Effie Victory Memorial Garden. In the first farming season (2017/2018), only five acres was cultivated and in that year, LIAM harvested 118 bags (50 kilograms each) of maize. The following season, LIAM decided to add three more acres to the initial 5 acres and the yields increased 100%. In 2019/2020 farming season, we yet added an extra two acres to the eight acres to make it ten and we expect another increased bumper harvest. The outcome of this farming project yields caters so much, ranging from feeding our 400 children (orphans and vulnerable), aiding operations of the offices, purchasing school supplies for the children to keeping them in school through tuition sponsorship.

When the garden was first put in place, they were funds readily available for all farm operations thanks to Mr. Victor Joseph for all the hard work and support towards this course and that helped a lot despite the weather change that poses as a threat to farming in Malawi. We plan to reach more children and provide them with the necessities to keep them in school while transforming their lives through this project. As you can see only a part (10 acres) of the 38 acres is in use. LIAM through its Agriculture office has proposals for an extension in their farming project. The plan is to incorporate animal production, irrigation systems and the already established maize farming as one big project designed to increase local funding activities. This is not to exterminate the plans of building LIAM Children Centre, but to work towards that project while feeding the children of Salima.We express our gratitude to individuals donors like Mr. Kurt Miller and Mr. Victor Joseph, and institutional partners like Lampstand Inc. and the Mighty Hands Inc. for making our plans and operations at LIAM a success. Please, we at LIAM ask you to commit by becoming a donor or partner through your decision to be any of these three things;
